Full-stack native plant finder for wholesale nursery buyers and restoration professionals: React/MapLibre UI, Express/GraphQL API, PostGIS spatial queries, PMTiles cartography, and a Python data pipeline.

Why This Matters

I built this to turn plant-range and nursery-domain data into a practical buying workflow. The platform lets users browse 189 curated native species, filter by wholesale-relevant traits such as wetland indicator and wildlife value, click any US county to discover native species, build plant lists, export them, and submit quote requests.

The app is built for wholesale nursery buyers, habitat restoration professionals, and wetland mitigation consultants who need fast species discovery by county and ecological trait.

Browse mode supports search, filters, pagination, species detail, plant-list building, and export.
Location mode lets a user click or enter a location and retrieve native species for that county.
Quote request flow is represented in the scenario quality gate.

Production data model

The README reports 189 production species, 115,470 county-species distribution records, and 3,235 US counties.

Core sources include USDA PLANTS and E.L. Little's Atlas of United States Trees.
Species schema centers scientific/common names, wetland indicator, fruit type, wildlife value, hardiness, photos, and vector embeddings.
County/species distribution is stored for PostGIS-backed lookup and PMTiles-backed rendering.

Architecture and operations

The monorepo combines React 19, Vite, MapLibre, PMTiles, Express, Apollo Server, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Redis, BullMQ, and a Python GIS pipeline.

REST carries product workflows; GraphQL remains available for flexible species/county lookup.
PMTiles keeps map delivery static and inexpensive while PostGIS handles spatial queries.
Docker Compose stack includes nginx, frontend, backend, database, Redis, embeddings, certbot, and backups.
